Courtrai Primary is a balanced school that also excels in sport.  We offer a variety of sports and through this,  try to develop a wide range of skills in our learners.

Our extramural program is structured in such a way as to accommodate the learner who wants to participate in in more than one sport.  Learners can take part in athletics, hockey, cricket, cross country, netball, rugby, tennis, swimming and chess.

Athletics

Courtrai offers athletics coaching to all pupils during the first and fourth term. The season kicks off with our Inter House Meeting where pupils compete in their colour teams.

The school annually enters more than 90 pupils in the zone meeting. From there, pupils can advance to the Paarl Final, Boland Central, Boland and Western Cape meetings.

In 2022, Courtrai was proud to have 3 athletes participating in the SA Championships.  At this meeting, they achieved two gold, one silver, one bronze and a fourth place.

We also take part in a number of friendly meetings and will hosted our first Prestige Meeting in 2022.

Tennis

All grade R pupils receive coaching in ball skills during school hours.
We currently have 14 teams that play matches regularly.

We host the Courtrai Tennis Tournament annually with 64 players coming from as far as Oudthshoorn.

The u.11 and u.13 teams regularly take part in tournaments. We are proud to have had 6 Boland players in 2022. One of these players were chosen to compete in the National Tournament.

Swimming

Our swimmers are currently all receiving training at private clubs.  They participate in a number of galas, of which the Interhouse Gala is ons of the first in the swimming year.
The Courtrai Prestige Gala is always a special meeting for our swimmers.

Cricket

Courtrai Primary offers Mini cricket for our foundation phase learners.  Grade R receives ball skills training during school hours.  Grades 1 to 3 take part in a number of mini cricket days, hosted by our neighbouring schools.

Our school’s cricket performs exceptionally well and we are fortunate to have 15 full teams.  Our u.12 and u.13 teams have the opportunity to take part in the Boland trials.

Netball

We are proud to have 28 teams competing in the netball league.  We also participate in a variety of sports days, where our pupils have the opportunity to compete against strong sport schools from across the Western Cape.

The highlight of  the year is our annual tour to Oudtshoorn as well as our friendly weekend with Bredasdorp Primary School.
This year, our u.12 and u.13 A and B teams are taking part in the Riebeeck Kasteel Holiday Tournament during the March holidays.

Rugby

We have 15 teams that will take part in the Western Province league during the 2022 season.  We regularly take part in sports days.  The highlight of the year is our tour to Oudtshoorn as well as the friendly weekend with Bredasdorp Primary School.

Hockey

Hockey coaching takes place during the second and third terms with about 38 teams taking part.

We take part in provincial trials as well as friendly matches.  from u.7 to u. 13.

Chess

We are very proud of the large number of young pupils who are turning into excellent chess players.  Our players take part in the annual chess league.  We also have regular workshopps to develop skills.  We end our year with friendly matches agains Bredasdorp Primary School.
